Description

This is a row of cottages located at 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30 Kirkgate, dating from 1824. The walls are made of flint with gault brick dressings, and the roof is covered with red pantiles. A datestone on the building reads 'J L 1824 F C'. These cottages are unaltered examples from the Holkham Estate.

On the garden front (east side), there are three-light cast iron casement windows with glazing bars, set under cambered rubbed brick arches, and flanked by brick quoins. The first-floor windows are two-light iron casements, also with glazing bars and wooden lintels. The cottages feature simple boarded doors with rubbed brick cambered arches and quoins.

There is a central arched alleyway with a tapering brick arch and quoins made of red brick, with the datestone positioned above it, slightly off axis. Cottages 26, 28, and 30 have lean-to porches and outhouses at the front, also made of flint and pantiles. Cottage 22 has a one-storey northern extension, constructed from flint and also pantiled. The rear facade facing Kirkgate is mostly blank, except for the alleyway and three windows.
