Description

No 17 is a wall that abuts No 17 to the south, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century for the front range, with an early 19th century corner and a long rear wing from the 17th century. The front range features stuccoed brick and a steeply pitched black-glazed pantile roof with a Dutch gable end, along with brick chimney stacks at both ends and brick dentil eaves. It is two storeys high, with six restored sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, two small sashes in architraves, and ground floor sashes in architraves with an entablature at floor level. The early 19th century corner, which projects, is also stuccoed and has a low-pitched hipped roof covered in black-glazed pantiles. It is two storeys tall, with two first-floor sashes featuring glazing bars, and the ground floor has pilasters with an entablature at floor level, along with segmental-headed windows and a doorway with keyblocks. The ground floor also features an early 20th-century projection that bows at the east end. The long rear wing, dating from the 17th century, is stuccoed and has a steep black-glazed pantile roof with a brick-coped gable end. It is one storey with an attic, featuring seven early 20th-century sashes in architraves with a continuous cornice above and two small flat-roofed dormers. There are area railings to the southeast, consisting of single wrought iron railings with spearhead shafts and urn finials on the stanchions. The high rear wall to the south is made of flint cobbles with brick dressings and ramped brick coping, likely dating from the 18th or early 19th century. This building is included for its group value.
