Description

The Post Office is a house dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a black glazed pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and five bays. On the ground floor to the south, there are two casement cross windows with arched headed frames set under cambered brick arches. To the north, there is a late 19th-century shop-front bay with a brick plinth, flanked by three-light casements on either side of a central part-glazed door, topped with a tiled roof and lead flushings.

The central door-case to the house is from the 20th century and includes 18th-century scroll brackets and a pedimented leaded canopy. The first floor features a plat-band and five casement cross windows, all under cambered brick arches. There is a brick dentil eaves cornice and a steeply pitched roof with three 20th-century two-light dormers beneath 20th-century wedge roofs. The south end has a stack and a brick parapet, both from the 20th century. To the north, there is an additional two-storey bay in a matching style. At the rear, there is a 19th-century outshut with a reused datestone from 1719, which may indicate the date of the front part of the building.
