Description

Colby Hall Farm House and its adjoining outbuildings date from the mid-18th century. The house is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a black pantile roof with an irregular plan. It has five bays and two storeys, with a brick plinth at the base. The central entrance has a doorcase flanked by pilasters with fluted capitals, a fluted frieze, and a cornice adorned with dentils. The ground floor has 19th-century casement windows set under rubbed and gauged brick arches, while the upper floor features segmental arches. A moulded brick platband and corner pilasters enhance the façade, and the eaves cornice is supported by paired wooden dentils. There are two attic dormer casements with plain barge boards and gable end stacks, with shaped gables; the right gable has a platband between the second and attic floors and two small attic windows.

The courtyard is formed by the adjoining buildings. The left range has vertical bands of black headers and two doorways, each with a semicircular fanlight above; one fanlight has radiating glazing bars that intersect a decorative band of black bricks. This range continues with a taller, later two-storey building that has a doorway with a semicircular fanlight and radiating glazing bars, while the upper floor features 20th-century casements. To the right of the house is a wall, followed by what is likely an 18th-century barn that has had its eaves raised and now has a 20th-century roof, along with a 20th-century sliding door leading to the courtyard. The fourth side of the yard is defined by a low wall and a gate.
