Description
Clay Barn at Number 4 is an early 19th-century barn located on the south side of Potter Heigham Church Road. It is constructed of shuttered clay with a reed thatch roof and features a weatherboarded east gable. The barn has a tall flint plinth with brick dressings and a three-bay plan that includes opposing cart doors in the central bay. There is a circular segment in brick at the northeast corner. The fallen clay render has exposed lift lines and timber corner ties. Inside, the barn has rounded internal corners and a simple roof structure made of two queen-strut trusses and intermediate compression collars. The use of shuttered clay construction is a rare technique in this part of Norfolk, and this small barn is a well-preserved and little altered example.
