Description

Whitehouse Farmhouse is a circa 1700 farmhouse that was remodelled in the 18th century. It is constructed of rendered and colourwashed brick with a roof of black glazed pantiles. Originally designed with a lobby entrance plan, the layout has since been altered. The south facade is two storeys high and features four window bays. A two-bay, single-storey extension was added in the early 20th century, incorporating late 18th-century sash windows with glazing bars. The extension has a low-pitched roof. The ground floor windows of the main block are 18th-century sashes with glazing bars. Four early 20th-century replacement sash windows with glazing bars are found on the first floor. The roof is bell-shaped with two 19th-century dormers that have flat tops. A ridge stack is located right of centre and an internal gable end stack is on the left; the former dates to circa 1700 and the latter is 20th century. An early 19th-century outshut is at the rear, with a catslide roof. Inside, the eastern ground floor room has chamfered cruciform bridging beams. The roof features two tiers of butt purlins, collars, and cusped wind bracing, with secondary rafters pegged into the purlins.
