Description

The Congregational Chapel, dated 1775, is a red brick building with a roof covered in black glazed pantiles. It features a facade that consists of a four-bay, two-storey chapel alongside a four-bay, two-storey house. The chapel has four ground floor arches made of rubbed brick, each with stone keystones and imposts supported by brick piers. On the first floor, there are two similar blank central arches, with a metal insurance plaque in the middle, flanked by two longer outer arches that contain windows with glazing bar margin lights and fan light heads. The structure has a brick plinth and rusticated brick quoins.

To the northwest, the house has one ground floor sash window and two first floor sash windows, all featuring margin light glazing bars. The ground floor has a four-panelled door. A moulded brick eaves cornice runs along the top, and both the chapel and house have a steeply pitched hipped roof. The southwest gable includes an arch with stone imposts and a keystone, but has a 19th-century boarded door. The entrance railings rise to an arch with a central bracket for a lamp that has since been removed. Inside, there are later 19th-century furnishings, an original coved plaster ceiling, and a cornice. There is also a wall tablet dated 1833. Number 3 The Lane, formerly listed as Number 4 The Lane, features a ground floor and two first-floor sash windows with margin light glazing bars, and a four-panel door dating from around 1900.
