Description

Bradmoor Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1820, with alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a black-glazed pantile hipped roof with deep eaves. The building has a T-shaped plan, consisting of a three-room front range that includes a stair hall to the left of the center, flanked by two parlours, and an axial passage leading to an unheated room on the right. The rear wing at the center contains a kitchen and dairy, with a scullery in a single-storey outshut at the rear right angle. The rear wing was raised to two storeys in the late 19th century. In the 20th century, a small two-storey extension was added to the rear left angle, and an outbuilding behind the rear wing was converted into a garage.

The exterior is two storeys high with a four-window south front. The original window openings have gauged brick flat arches and 20th-century plastic casements. There is a smaller two-light window to the left of center with a doorway below, featuring a doorcase with moulded pilasters, panelled reveals, a reeded frieze, and a cornice, along with a panelled and glazed door. The rear gable-ended wing has been raised to two storeys, with an outshut in the left angle and the small two-storey extension in the right angle. The west end of the front range has large 20th-century windows rendered over.

Inside, the plan remains intact, and much of the early 19th-century joinery is preserved, including six-panel and two-panel doors, as well as an open-well staircase with an open string, stick balusters, and a moulded mahogany handrail that is wreathed over a column curtail newel. Historically, it was part of the Suffield estate (Gunton Park) and was sold from the estate in 1913, along with 171 acres of land.
