Description

A pair of cottages dates from around 1840. They are constructed of brick with some flint, featuring brick dressings and red pantiled roofs. The cottages are two storeys high, with lean-to wings extending from the sides. The west lean-to is of flint with brick dressings and contains a three-light fixed casement with glazing bars. The east lean-to is of brick and also has a three-light casement with glazing bars. On the ground floor, there is a two-light casement with glazing bars, set under a cambered brick head. Above, a first-floor two-light casement with glazing bars sits beneath a wooden lintel. Part-glazed boarded doors are sheltered by cambered brick arches. Pilaster strips, quoined in brick, run down the centre and ends of the building. A plat-band runs across the first floor, and a dentil eaves cornice tops the structure. A 20th-century brick stack is positioned centrally. The group value of the cottages lies in their well-preserved brickwork and picturesque detailing.
