Description
The Church of All Saints is a redundant parish church that dates from the medieval period and later. It is constructed of flint and features a thatched roof. The church includes a western vestry, nave, south porch, and chancel. The vestry, built in 1924, replaced a tower that collapsed in 1882, with its remains still visible on the west wall of the nave. The nave is buttressed and consists of three bays, with two lancet lights on the west side. On the south side, there are three 2-light 19th-century Decorated windows. The north side has a door leading to the first bay and a 2-light window in the third bay, also from the 19th century. The chancel is buttressed and features a Y-tracery window under a hood mould with a figure stop, a priest's door, and a late medieval 2-light triangular-headed window. The east window is a 3-light window under a 4-centred arch from the 19th century. There is a passage through a buttress to the south-east corner, and a two-storey porch with a bell located in the upper storey above the first nave bay.
Inside, the nave roof has simple ashlaring and is scissor-braced, with 20th-century queen-posts that have arched braces to the purlins and collar beam. There are remains of a rood stair and a plain hammerbeam roof in the chancel. A wall painting can be found on the north side. The church features poppy-head bench ends, with one depicting an elephant on its shoulder, two with barrels, and others showcasing mythical beasts, a man and lion, and two fighting dogs. The church is listed as Grade I for its notable roofs.
