Description

Moat Farmhouse comprises two distinct phases of development. The western part of the house dates from the late 17th century, while the eastern section was built in the early 19th century. The house is constructed primarily of brick, with the western block originally thatched and the eastern block now roofed with black glazed pantiles.

The western block is a two-storey structure with a flint plinth. A central door is flanked by casement windows, which have been altered and now set beneath segmental arches. A platband runs horizontally between the two floors. The first floor features a central blind window and two further casement windows. The roof is gabled with an internal gable end stack, and there is tumbling in the gable head. A two-storey 20th-century extension adjoins the north side, alongside a 20th-century outshut.

The eastern block is a two-storey, three-bay structure featuring a central panelled door within a timber frame. It has sash windows with glazing bars, each set beneath a gauged skewback arch; the first-floor sash windows were replaced in the late 19th century. A modillion timber eaves cornice runs along the roofline, and the roof is gabled with internal end stacks. The rear elevation has three windows, with a central ground-floor window blind. It also features sash windows with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches.
