Description
Northrepps Cottage is a house that has been converted into a restaurant, dated 1793 with the initials B.G. on the datestone. It was designed by William Wilkins, Senior for Bartlett Gurney. The building is constructed of coursed flint with galleting and features painted brick dressings, with roofs made of pantiles and tiles. It has an irregular plan and the entrance front consists of five bays, with the three bays on the left being symmetrical.
The windows are leaded casements, each light featuring a transom, and the upper part has a 2-centred arch glazing bar. There are 2-light casements to the left and right of a single-storey porch, which has a 2-centred archway leading to a square-headed plank and muntin door topped with a hipped tile roof. Quoins are present between the third and fourth bays and the fourth and fifth bays, with the fourth bay having a 2-light casement.
On the first floor, there are two single-light casements above the porch, with a 2-light casement to the left and right, a 2-light casement in the fourth bay, and a single-light casement in the fifth bay. The eaves oversail, and there are two axial stacks along with a gable-end stack on the right.
The left-hand return, or garden front, has four bays, with the two central bays being single-storey and each featuring a 2-light casement. The datestone is also visible here, along with a 2-light attic casement. The slightly projecting end bays are two storeys high and have 2-light casements, with oversailing eaves. There is a 20th-century single-storey range to the left. The landscape gardener Humphry Repton is associated with the property.
