Description

The two attached cottages at 18 and 19 The Street date from the 17th and 18th centuries. The right-hand side, consisting of two bays, is constructed of galletted knapped flint with brick dressings, covered with black glazed pantiles. It features a dogs tooth cornice and remnants of a former castellated brick cornice. The structure is two storeys and an attic. There are two cross-casement windows on each floor, with glazing bars. An internal stack is positioned at the right end, featuring two fat, octagonal brick shafts built upon chamfered square plinths. Gable windows on the right-hand side have square brick hood moulds; two are blocked on the ground floor, one has a brick mullion to the first floor, and one is blocked and one has a wood mullion to the attic. A rear outshut is constructed in brick with pantiles. A stair turret is built in flint and includes a large blocked side window under a square brick hood mould. The left-hand side, encompassing three lower bays, is two storeys and an attic. It features a ground-floor construction of flint, an upper floor of rendered material, and black unglazed pantiles. There are three casement windows on each floor, along with two roof dormers and two doors on the ground floor. The left-hand gable is of coursed flint and brick, with an upper part rebuilt. A single-storey brick extension on a flint plinth, dated 1868 and attributed to John Thomas Mott, extends to the rear. An octagonal chimney shaft, also dated 1868, is located at the gable end of the extension.
