Description

This building, located at 11 and 12 Tuesday Market Place, has origins dating back to the 16th century but was completely rebuilt around 1830. It features a brown brick exterior with a slate roof at the front and pantiles at the rear. The structure is two stories high and consists of seven bays, with the center bay projecting forward under a gable. This central bay has a 20th-century door and a 20th-century cross casement window on the first floor. To the left, there is a 19th-century public house facade with four subsidiary bays, including a doorway with an overlight to the right. Above this, there are two sash windows with glazing bars. The remaining windows have been replaced with 19th-century style two-light casements featuring arched lights, and all openings are topped with gauged skewback arches. The building has a gabled roof with internal gable-end stacks and two additional ridge stacks that are symmetrically placed. The facade facing St Nicholas Street is similar in design. The main wall at the rear is constructed from roughly coursed ashlar and carstone blocks. Inside, the public house area retains wainscoting and a serving hatch from around 1830, but there is little else of interest.
