Description

The building at 52-56 High Street is probably from the early 19th century. It is a three-storey brick structure, originally colourwashed. The front has five sash windows at the first floor, each with a gauged flat arch and glazing bars, with the exception of the window at number 56, which is a casement. A parapet runs along the roofline, featuring long sunken panels. Mid-19th century shops have been added to the ground floor, displaying consoles and a heavy dentil cornice. The Castle Hotel and numbers 52 to 56 form a group.
