Description
The stables and coach house at Cross House Farm, dated 1873, are constructed from Flemish bond red brick, with the rear wall made of flint nodules and red brick quoins and stringcourse. The building features a gable-ended pantile roof and has a rectangular plan that includes three stables and a coach house situated between the left and center stables, with a loft above. It is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical east front.
To the left of the center is a segmental brick arch doorway for the coach house, which has boarded double doors and a loft loading door above. This loft door is topped by a gable with a tablet inscribed "S 1873." The ground floor includes three stable doorways, each with plank doors and small windows on the sides. To the right of the coach house doorway, there is an external brick staircase leading to the loft door, with a dog-kennel located beneath the stairs. All doors are made of planks, and all openings feature segmental arches. The interior has not been inspected.
These stables were part of Cross House, which was demolished around the mid-20th century. They are now part of Cross House Farm, one of three farms on Earl Spencer's 3,000-acre North Creake estate.
