Description

Denver Sluice is a sluice and bridge built in 1834 by Sir John Rennie. It was enlarged in 1923, with a new flood gate added in 1928. The gates were replaced in 1960 and again in 1983. The structure is made of brick, stone, and steel, featuring a four-arched bridge of brick that is finished with ashlar and rusticated details. There are four ashlar piers, with the outer two projecting to the north and south to form locks. The sluice has three chambers that are controlled by timber tide gates to the north and three steel guillotine gates to the south.
