Description
The ruins of the Church of St. Michael, located in Bawsey Mintlyn, date back to the 12th century. The structure is built from carstone rubble, with some iron conglomerate, a few flints, and erratics, featuring limestone dressings and is currently roofless. It consists of a single cell, with the west gable remaining, including its return angles and the south-east angle. There is a 4-centred window opening in the west gable that retains remnants of cusped tracery. Above this opening, there are bricks in the gable and in the upper rear arch, along with small square brick-lined apertures on either side of the opening. A limestone coffin lid from the 12th century is positioned in the south porch area. The font, which is referenced elsewhere, is now located in the garden of Whitehouse Farmhouse. Additionally, fragments of moulding from the church are housed in King's Lynn Museum.
