Description

Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse from the early 18th century and later. It is constructed of brick with a slate roof and features five bays across two storeys, with a forward cross wing at bay five. The south facade shows that bays one and two are part of a 19th-century addition, marked by a vertical join. Bays three and four have a base made of large carstone and dressed reused limestone blocks, with wide blocked openings on each floor now fitted with later windows. The ground floor has cross casements with segmental arches in bays one and two, while bays one to three on the first floor include a cross window with a weathered Gibbs surround made of similar sandstone. Bay five features a cross wing with a 19th-century canted bay window on the ground floor, which has an embattled parapet and two fixed single lights. There is an internal gable end stack to the left and an axial stack located between bays two and three. The right return of the cross wing to the east includes a platband, with the ground floor having two horned flush sashes under flat arches and the first floor featuring a three-light 20th-century steel casement. There is also an internal gable stack to the left and an axial stack between bays two and three. The right return of the cross wing to the east has a platband, with the ground floor featuring two horned flush sashes under flat arches and the first floor having two flush sashes with glazing bars, along with an internal gable stack to the north. At the rear, there is a continuous outshut made of gault brick under slate, and the original rear external wall is constructed of stone blocks. The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
