Description
Nos. 9, 10, and 11 on Southgate Street are two houses dating from the early 18th century. They are constructed of red and buff brick and feature a pantiled roof. The buildings are two storeys high with a dormer attic and have a plinth course. The front has two central 20th-century doors that are separated and flanked by reeded strips, with blocked overlights above. On either side of the doors are two late 20th-century sash windows under segmental arches. A platband runs across the first floor, which has two late 20th-century windows that have been placed in the openings of six former windows that are now blocked. The roof is gabled and hipped to the west, featuring two flat-topped dormers and a central buff brick ridge stack. At the rear, there is a two-storey gabled cross wing that has been largely rebuilt in the late 20th century. This building is included for its group value.
