Description
This is a mid-16th century house, originally divided into two properties and re-united in 1967, situated on Bridge Street, King’s Lynn. The front facade was significantly altered and restored in 1967, and is now constructed of brick and flint, with a colourwashed finish. It has a slate roof and two storeys plus a dormer attic. To the right is a former late 19th century public house front, featuring two window bays and a doorway. To the left, a former carriage passage is supported by a hood with scrolled consoles and is now incorporated as an entrance hall. One late 19th century sash window is located to the left of the elevation, and another is on the first floor to the right. The gabled roof features two late 19th century shaped gables along the wall line, with casement windows. A rolled kneeler is visible on the north gable parapet. The rear wall features a stepped buttress. A two-storey plain tiled cross wing to the rear of No.33 has undergone considerable alteration.
Inside, a re-used trefoiled niche of ecclesiastical origin is present. On the first floor of No.33, the street-facing range includes a sunk quadrant-moulded bridging beam with bar stops and a blocked 4-light ovolo-moulded timber casement. Both properties have roofs with clasped purlins and canted collars, although the collars in No.34 are straight.
