Description
This is a late medieval barn located 100 metres southwest of Abbey Farmhouse, with a detached gable situated 10 metres to the north. The barn is constructed from flint with stone dressings and features a slate roof. It consists of two three-stead barns built end to end, which formerly extended to the now-detached north gable. The west face of the barn has two massive stone-faced buttresses with set-offs and stone-dressed ventilation slits. There are two cart entrances, one with in-situ stone jambs and a 19th-century brick arched head to the north, and a wooden lintel to the south. The detached former north gable also has two buttresses with set-offs. The south gable features angle quoins and two buttresses with set-offs. Inside, there is a 19th-century Queen post strut roof, with some detached tie-beams resting on the wall plate, along with wall posts and struts that survive from an earlier roof. This barn may have been part of the former west or farm court of the Priory of St. Mary and All Saints. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County Number 170.
