Description
Nos. 7 and 8 Southgate Street is a house, now divided into two houses, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with buff brick dressings and features plain tiled roofs. The building has a T-plan layout and stands two storeys high with a dormer attic. There is a plinth course and three bays. A panelled door is located to the left, set beneath a curvilinear fanlight and within panelled reveals. Fluted Doric columns support block entablatures and an open pediment. To the right, there are two late 19th-century horned sash windows in 18th-century flush frames, along with fine gauged skewback arches. A platband runs along the first floor. On the first floor, there are two sash windows separated by a central blind window, all featuring glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. The building has a plain parapet and a gabled roof, with one central flat-topped dormer. The roof of the rear wing is visible above the main roofline, accompanied by a large stack on its east side. The building has a hipped roof and also stands two storeys high with a dormer attic.
