Description
The Wheelwright's Oven is a mid-19th century structure located in East Walton. It is built from gault brick and features a barrel roof made of the same material. The building is rectangular, measuring approximately 2.8 meters long, 1.5 meters wide, and 2.2 meters high, with walls that are about 0.5 meters thick. The walls are constructed in English bond and have a central shallow buttress on either side, reinforced with iron hoops. A central squat chimney is present, and the entrance on the north side has double stable doors made of iron. The interior is narrow, approximately 0.6 meters wide. The oven was capable of holding six iron tyres and remained in use until around 1940. Additionally, there is a circular iron wheel plate set into the ground about 3 meters to the west of the oven. This building is included as an example of a 19th-century rural industrial building.
