Description
The ruins of the Old Church of St. Mary, a former parish church dating from the 15th century, are located on Southery Churchgate Street. The structure is built from ferruginous conglomerate, ashlar, and bricks, featuring a nave and chancel. The west wall is constructed with galleted chequered ashlar and ferruginous conglomerate. The arched west door has been repaired with brick, as have the jambs of the arched west window above, which lacks tracery. There are early 19th-century brick repairs on the south side of the west front, extending down the south flank in the form of an aisled extension. The south side also has flat brick buttresses and three arched window openings. The north door is of ogee form and features hollow mouldings. To the east, there are two depressed arched window openings, and the chancel's east window opening is faced with brick, also without tracery. An internal rood stair door remains intact.
