Description
123 and 123A King Street is a pair of houses that have been converted into two shops and an office. They date from the late 18th century and are constructed of rendered and colourwashed brick with a pantile roof. The buildings are two storeys high with a dormer attic and have a four-window range. They feature rusticated and vermiculated quoins and two early 20th-century plate-glass shop fronts. The first floor of each property is lit by two windows: No.123 has 6/6 unhorned sashes in flush frames, while No.123A has 20th-century casements. There is an eaves cornice with mutules, and the gabled roof has two flat-topped dormers, one fitted with a 3/3 sash (No.123) and the other with a 20th-century casement (No.123A). Internal gable-end stacks are located to the north and south, with the north gable made of flint and brick, and the gable head rebuilt. Inside, No.123 retains a stick-baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail, while the staircase in No.123A has been altered.
