Description

The stable and cottage range, located on the west side of the courtyard approximately 100 metres southeast of Heydon Hall, dates from the late 17th century and later. It is constructed of red brick and features a steeply-pitched pantile roof. The building is two storeys high, and its facade facing the courtyard has three stepped-gabled bays. Under the left-hand gable, there is a square-headed doorway with a rectangular fanlight above it, and a 2-light first-floor casement window with glazing bars set in a segmental-headed opening. The ground floor includes cross-casements with ovolo moulding, two doorways with keyed segmental arches and stuccoed surrounds, and a central doorway flanked by two single-light casements. A first-floor string course with stuccoed moulding runs along the facade, and there are upper loading doors with segmental heads. The brick eaves feature a corbel-table, and the gables have square terracotta panels displaying the initials WB. Two chimney stacks are located on the ridge line, slightly off-centre to the south. The gables are parapeted and include eaves corbels and square finials. The west elevation has 20th-century wooden casements with glazing bars and half-glazed entrance doors. A catslide roof covers a lean-to on the northwest side, which includes a lean-to porch at the angle. The building also has dentilled brick eaves and a pantiled one-storey lean-to on the south gable. Attached to the southeast corner is a boundary wall with half-round coping and a square gate pier topped with a ball finial.
