Description
The Elms is a house mainly from the 19th century, though it may have an earlier core. It features rendered brick and red brick with a pantiled roof. The building has a 'U'-shaped plan, consisting of two storeys and attics, along with a later two-storey wing to the south. The west facade has a central bay with projecting wings, which are infilled with a single-storey hall made of gault brick and a conservatory that includes mullioned windows with semi-circular heads and trefoiled spandrels.
The entrance is through half-glazed doors topped with a semi-circular fanlight, set within an ashlared stucco surround that has a pediment. Inside the conservatory, there is a four-panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight and a moulded gault brick door surround. Each wing has two sash windows with glazing bars, and flat gauged brick arches beneath stucco with key blocks to the right. The central bay on the first floor features a window with margin lights flanked by two blank windows, a moulded brick cornice, and open work parapet eaves. There is a central dormer with a semi-circular headed window that has a moulded architrave, key block, and glazing bars, all under a hipped roof. The early 20th-century wing is noted as not being of special interest.
