Description
The Church of St Peter is a parish church constructed from flint with stone dressings, featuring slate and lead roofs. It includes a porch, nave, north and south aisles, a tower, and a chancel. The tower dates from around 1100 and was originally central to the earlier church, but is now positioned east of the north aisle. Its last stage and battlemented top were added in the 15th century and later. The western face of the tower shows stone vousoirs from the original construction. The aisles, nave, and clerestory were built in the 15th century. Inside the tower, on the east wall, there are two half-rolls flanking an arris, which are the remains of the first chancel arch. The church also features a 15th-century piscina and sedilia, the base of a 15th-century screen, and late 17th-century altar rails in the chancel. There are stairs leading to a former roof loft in the north aisle, a 15th-century font with an octagonal bowl, early 16th-century brasses, and later monuments.
