Description

The Rookery is a house that dates back to around 1600, with most of its structure built around 1900. It is constructed from brick and roughcast clay lump, topped with a pantiled gable roof. The house features a through passage plan and has two storeys plus a dormer attic. The main range has three bays, with a door on the left side under a flat hood. There is a timber moulded string course at the first floor level. To the left, there is a two-bay addition that is also two storeys high. The windows throughout are primarily 19th-century casements, with some from the 20th century. The attic storey is half-timbered. The building has an external stack for the extension and a central stack for the main range. The rear of the house is similar in style but includes a full-length timber conservatory on a roughcast plinth from around 1900. To the right, there is a cross-gabled cruciform billiard room. The south-west gable features an early 17th-century window with five lights and hollow chamfered timber mullions.

Inside, there is a pegged plank and muntin screen that divides the original hall from the passage, with a plain section that has four muntins removed for access. The fireplace has been rebuilt. The drawing room contains two cross bridging beams with sunk quadrant mouldings and end stopped joists.
