Description

Holme Hale Hall is a house that primarily dates from the early 19th century but conceals a core from the 16th or 17th century. It has later additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is mainly constructed of rendered brick that has been scored to imitate ashlar, and it features slate roofs. The original block is a single pile structure with a symmetrical facade, flanked by single bay side additions and a billiard room extension to the east, along with various service buildings at the rear.

The original block has two storeys with an attic and a symmetrical facade comprising five bays of French windows on the ground floor and 2-light casement windows above, all with margin glazing. The central entrance is framed by a stuccoed open porch supported by a pair of unfluted Doric columns, which hold up a plain entablature that forms a balcony with elaborate iron railings in the Regency style. The balcony door features a reeded architrave and a blind box. The building has wide eaves supported by paired shaped brackets, and there are three pedimented dormer windows with margin glazed casements, moulded cornices, and panelled jambs. The gables are parapetted, and there are end stacks.

The early 18th century side additions are single bay and have a pedimented design, with fenestration similar to the original block, including straight hood moulds on consoles and jalousie shutters. The western facade of the western addition features three bays of sash windows with glazing bars and a large central single-storey canted bay. The rear facade is also pedimented. The eastern extension has two storeys and three bays of sash windows, with glazing bars present only on the ground floor.
