Description
The Church of St Andrew is a parish church that dates from the medieval period and later. It is constructed of flint with ashlar dressings and features brick quoins on the encased tower. The roofs are covered with plaintile and pantile. The church comprises a west tower, an aisle-less nave, and a chancel. The west tower is encased, except for the bell stage, and has a re-set two-light late Perpendicular west window, along with two-light bell-openings and a modern brick and flint parapet. The north-west angle of the nave has flint quoins, and there are two two-light Perpendicular windows on the south side with embattled transoms. The north side features one lancet window and one Victorian traceried window.
In the chancel, there is one restored two-light Perpendicular window, three lancets, one two-light Y-traceried window, and a restored three-light east window in the late 13th-century cusped lancet style. The south door is moulded and dates from the 14th century. Inside, there is a chamfered and plastered tower arch, but no chancel arch. The south wall of the nave has three bays of wide interconnecting rere arches. A trefoil chancel piscina is present, and a screen dated 1532 retains six dado panels, four of which feature remarkable contemporary paintings, notably one depicting St George slaying the dragon. The church also has a plain octagonal font.
