Description

Melford Bridge is a road bridge over the River Thet, dated 1697 and funded by John Wodehouse. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings. The bridge features three semi-circular arches on both the upstream and downstream faces, with two arches grouped closely together at the south end. These two arches are faced with ashlar and are flanked by a pilaster that rises from a pointed cutwater. On the upstream side, the pilaster displays a stone plaque featuring the Wodehouse arms and the date 1697. The bridge has a splayed parapet with rounded coping stones, most of which have been replaced.
