Description

Beech Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the 16th century with later alterations. The original timber frame has been replaced with brick on the south side, and the roof is covered in pantiles. The house follows a screens passage plan with evidence of former entrances on opposite sides. It is one and a half storeys in height.

The south facade has three bays of 2-light casement windows from the 19th century, with apparent wooden lintels and rectangular hood moulds on the ground floor. A 20th-century glazed door sits in the original position, sheltered by a 19th-century gabled hood supported on curved brackets. The north facade has three bays of 3-light casements and a modern door, opposite an off-centre axial stack. A 19th-century gabled hood with shaped bargeboards is present, along with a modern gable-end stack to the west.

Inside, the hall features elaborately moulded re-used bridging joists and chamfered joists. A pair of reset service doors with 4-centred heads are present, along with a 4-centred head over the former north entrance. A fine queen post roof truss is visible, featuring a cambered tie and arched braces.
