Description

The Grange is a former farmhouse dating to around 1840. It is constructed of brick with slate and pantile roofing. The house is two storeys high, with a cellar. The front facade features three sash windows with glazing bars, set beneath skewback arches. The central bay is slightly recessed and topped with a three-centred arch. A decorative doorcase features a traceried semicircular fanlight, supported by a pair of freestanding Tuscan columns and flanked by channelled pilasters, culminating in an open pediment. A moulded cornice sits above, and the roof is hipped. A single-storey canted bay extends from the side of the main block, and irregular service extensions are located at the rear. These rear extensions may incorporate elements predating the main block. Inside, a staircase has an open string, square sectioned balusters, and a swept mahogany handrail. One fireplace includes a duck’s nest grate.
