Description
Narside is a former miller's house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of gault brick and has a concrete tile roof. The building features a three-bay facade flanked by a pair of giant pilasters with recessed central panels. On the ground floor, there is a semicircular headed sash window with glazing bars on the south side, set within an enclosing arch. The similar window on the north side has been replaced by an early 20th-century canted bay. Moulded stucco imposts extend to form a string course, and the center bay is slightly advanced with a pediment. An open porch, which is semicircular in plan, is supported by four tall Roman Doric columns that hold up a simple entablature. The front door is a two-leaf panelled design beneath a semicircular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. On the first floor, there are three sash windows with glazing bars located beneath skewback arches. A painted cornice moulding runs approximately three courses below the eaves. The north wall features two three-light Gothick windows with Y-traceried glazing bars. The roof is hipped with axial principal stacks, and there is a lower service wing at the rear.
