Description
The Wind and Water Mill is a disused mill located in Little Cressingham, dating from around 1820. It is constructed of gault brick and features a flat concrete roof. Attached to the west side is a brick waterwheel house with a single pitch corrugated metal roof. The mill has a battered circular tower that rises six stories high, with a rebuilt timber gallery at the third floor level. Each floor, except for the ground, first, and third, has four rectangular windows set beneath segmental arches; the eastern openings on the lower floors are doorways.
Inside, the mill features a breast shot iron waterwheel that drives two pairs of stones at the first floor level, with one of the two pairs of wind-driven stones still intact at the fourth floor. The timber wind-driven spur wheel remains on a massive octagonal shaft, which is decorated with ogee chamfer stops. Additionally, bins and sack hoist machinery are still present. The mill was formerly part of the Clermont Estate.
