Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory dating from the 17th century and later. It features a timber frame that has been replaced with brick at the front and rendered at the rear. The original brick gable end is now mostly hidden by a side addition. The building has pantile roofs and stands two storeys high with an attic. The front has six bays of 19th-century chamfered mullion casements set beneath shallow pointed arches. There is a raised and fielded panelled front door with a modern brick porch. Strips of 17th-century brickwork with header diaper patterns are visible at the front and rear. The building includes two 3-light and one 2-light 18th-century dormers, all with segmental roofs, leaded glazing, and metal casements. There is one original gable-end stack and one off-centre axial stack. Later additions have been made to the sides and rear. Inside, there are ogee and nicked chamfer stops on one spinal bridging joist, and a winding stair, likely original, is located beside the axial stack. Additionally, there are two fine 17th-century fireplaces featuring 4-centred arches made of stuccoed brick.
