Description
The Nabisco Shredded Wheat Factory, built in 1925 and designed by architect Louis de Soissons, consists of two concrete ranges arranged at right angles with links between them. The southern range features a striking series of cylindrical concrete drums that extend 15 bays long, topped with a flat oversailing capping and railings that run along the entire top. Behind this range is a plain attic storey with 28 simple windows and plain capping above. One end elevation includes a three-bay projecting tower that rises slightly above the main roof level.
At the western end of the southern range, there is a two-bay wing with large windows; the southern bay has three storeys, while the northern bay has four storeys, both with flat roofs. Adjacent to this is a seven-bay, four-storey block characterized by large windows separated by narrow piers and small structural divisions between the storeys, giving it an almost entirely glass appearance. The roof is finished with flat oversailing capping.
