Description
Lemsford Mill is a large water corn mill that has been converted into flats. It was rebuilt in 1863, as indicated by the date stone in the south wall. The building has four storeys and an attic, with the ground and first floors made of pale gault brick, while the upper storeys are clad in weatherboarding. The slate roof is half hipped at the north end and features a bracketed weatherboarded hoist above the center of the east front. The mill has five-bay elevations with small segmental arched windows in the brickwork, and timber lintels above those in the weatherboarding. There are superimposed former loading doors aligned with the hoist. The overshot mill wheel is no longer in place. Inside, the structural system includes cast iron columns with concave echinus capitals, and queen post trusses support the roof.
