Description

Ivy Cottage is a house that was formerly a village school, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It features a rear wing from the 18th century, creating an L-shaped plan. The exterior is made of chequered red brick and plaster, topped with steeply pitched old tile roofs. The building has two storeys and includes two external chimney stacks on the south elevation. The east elevation has three windows with modern casements, while the north gable end displays a 17th-century chimney stack. The south gable reveals exposed purlins and wall plates. Notably, Ivy Cottage was visited by Vincent Van Gogh, whose sister taught at the school.
