Description
The K8 telephone kiosk at Chorleywood Station is a Grade II listed structure, designed by Bruce Martin for the General Post Office and produced from 1968. It is made of cast iron and aluminium.
This K8 Mark 2 kiosk consists of six cast iron parts and features an aluminium door. Three sides, including the door, are fitted with large sheets of toughened glass set in rectangular frames with rounded corners. Above the integral door handle, there is a lock mechanism. The fourth side is a back panel made of cast iron. The kiosk has a square plan and a flat roof dome, which is glazed with toughened glass on four sides. The glass panes are marked with the text 'PRIVATE' and are recessed within a cast-line moulding. The kiosk is painted blue and still has its telephone equipment surround and directory cards, although the auto-phone and shelf below have been replaced later.
The kiosk is located on the southbound platform of Chorleywood station.
