Description
No 2 Letchmore Road is a building dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century. It features a timber frame with close studding beneath plaster and has an old tiled roof with cross gables at either end, which overhang the first floors. The center of the building consists of one storey and an attic, with a gabled dormer, and may have originally served as a hall before an upper floor was added later. There are four modern lattice casement windows, and a red brick chimneystack from the late 16th century or early 17th century, which has been partly rebuilt. The building was used as the Parish Workhouse from 1773 to 1835 and was referred to in 1773 as Scott's Slaughterhouse, indicating it was a butcher's dwelling in the 16th century.
