Description
This is a house dating from the 19th century, with possible origins in the 16th century. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a Welsh slate roof hidden behind a parapet and a yellow brick cornice. The house is two storeys high.
The exterior features an off-centre front door set within a surround of slim, incised Doric pilasters topped with a corniced hood supported on consoles. Flanking the door are canted bay windows. Ground floor windows bear scratch marks, reading ‘John Brown January 1/1865’ and ‘J.D. 1882’. A brick band runs across the first floor, above which are two sash windows set within yellow brick, cambered arches. Angle pilasters are also present. Later extensions are visible at the rear.
Inside, evidence of earlier framing, possibly from the 16th century, is visible, including studs at the first floor level. The staircase rises against what was formerly an external wall. The house features four-panel doors set within architraves. A brick-lined cellar is also present.
The building shares group value with number 132.
