Description

Nos. 3 to 5 Romeland Hill comprise three adjoining properties, altered throughout their histories. No. 3 dates from the later 18th century. It is a two-storey, two-window building with a tiled roof of moderate pitch and an eaves soffit. The front is cement rendered. It has recessed sash windows, with added moulded architraves, bracketed sills, and console bracketed cornices to the ground floor. A central door has a similar architrave, cornice, and pediment, approached by three steps. A high, rendered plinth is present.

No. 4 is an earlier 18th century building, also altered. It is two storeys and two windows in width, with a moderately high-pitched tiled roof and eaves soffit. The walls are red brick with a rendered plinth. The sash windows have gauged, shallow segmental brick arches within stucco lined reveals, with a later bracketed sill to one first-floor window. There are bracketed cornices to the ground-floor windows. A door is set under a console bracketed cornice hood, approached by two steps.

No. 5 has an early 19th century front, concealing an older house. It is two storeys and three windows in width, with a moderately high-pitched tiled roof. The walls are red brick with a rendered plinth. The side windows are set in tall recesses. The sash windows have gauged, flat brick arches with white keystones within stucco lined reveals. A door is surmounted by a cornice, approached by two steps. A carriageway is located on the ground floor to the right. A gabled extension is visible to the rear.

Nos. 3 to 5 form a group valued for their contribution to the streetscape.
