Description
This is a 15th or early 16th century hall house, originally a farmhouse, and now a house. It was floored in the 16th and 17th centuries, with later 17th century extensions to the north elevation. The south elevation was stuccoed in the early 19th century and was formerly the front of the property.
The house is timber-framed, with the frame visible on the north side, and has plaster and painted brick walls. It features a plain tile roof. The north side has three gable ends in a line, with the two rightmost gables showing thinner framing. There are three 20th-century glazing bar casements on the north side.
A deeper rear range contains the former hall and a 16th-century wing. This rear range has a half-hipped plain tile roof constructed using clasped purlins. A large 17th century external stack stands on the right end, featuring a tall sloping stack and an oven at its base. The rear elevation has five 20th-century glazing bar casements and a central half-glazed door. A central 17th-century ridge stack is also present.
Internally, the rear range is arranged over three bays, with the western two bays originally forming a deep hall. A large truss is visible on the first floor, and a collar purlin is exposed in the western bay. The north wall of the hall is visible on the ground floor of the western bay, and there are holes indicating the former presence of a diamond mullioned window. The north extensions have stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops on the ground floor.
