Description

Nos 126 and 128, known as Fern Cottage, are a pair of houses with a 17th-century origin. The timber frame was recased in the mid-18th century using chequered red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles and features a large chimney stack on the front slope. The chimney shafts are grouped, with the right two having 17th-century bases and the tops, along with the left shaft, dating to the 18th century. The houses are two storeys high and have three windows across the front; the centre window on the first floor is blank. The windows are mostly 8/8-pane sashes, with a 19th-century shop window on the left ground floor. The doors are located within a shared brick frame and are set under a segmental arch. A 19th-century lean-to has been added to the left side.
