Description
The St Edmundsbury Weaving Works is a small factory built in 1908 and extended in 1913, designed in the Arts and Crafts style by B Parker and R Unwin, with the extension by Hignett. The building is one and a half storeys tall and features a symmetrical three-bay front with a central entrance bay that has three projecting gables. The roof is tiled, and there are brick stacks with moulded caps and weathered tile offsets on the gable chimney. The walls are roughcast with brick pilasters and buttresses. It has flat-topped dormer casements and mullioned casement windows with concrete surrounds and leaded lights. The gabled bays flanking the entrance have T-shaped windows typical of the Arts and Crafts movement. The entrance itself is recessed and round-arched, featuring tile voussoirs and imposts. At the rear, the weaving shop has north light windows that are disguised by 'Dutch' gables. The front range includes a large studio and showroom, both equipped with galleries.
