Description
This is a barn and attached stable located at Priory Farm, 50 meters southwest of The Priory. The barn dates from the 17th century, while the stable is from the 18th century. The structure is timber framed with tarred brick sills and is covered in dark weatherboarding. The barn has a thatched roof that is now covered with corrugated iron, while the stable features a steep hipped roof made of old red tiles at the northern end.
The barn consists of three bays, with one long side now open to the yard on the north side. The tall stable is attached at the eastern end, projecting to the north and facing into the yard on the west. There is a gabled lucarne with a boarded door leading to the loft above the stable on the eastern side. The barn features jowled posts, long straight tension braces, straight braces to the tie-beams, and inclined straight queen-posts that support the single clasped-purlin in each slope of the roof. Notably, the western end of the barn stands over an infilled section of the moat that once surrounded the former priory.
