Description

The Old George and Dragon Hotel dates to the early 19th century. It has a front primarily of red brick, with a slightly projecting central section of five storeys and two-storey wings flanking it. The roof is hipped and tiled. The windows are arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern, featuring sash windows with glazing bars set within reveals and under flat arches. The ground floor has arched panels to the three central windows, while dummy windows are positioned in the centre of each upper floor. Brick modillion cornices sit above the second floor. Roof parapets top the structure. A modern wing is attached to the left. The hotel forms part of a group with numbers 2 to 16, even-numbered Hitchin Street.
